We built Telaya on a foundation of family and hard work. These two principles guide our philosophy in handcrafting Idaho and Washington wines, and our focus on hospitality.

Telaya started in 2008, when we produced 50 cases of carefully conceived wine. We’ve grown quite a bit since then. Our facility — which includes a full production space and tasting room — is located right on the Boise Greenbelt, just minutes from downtown and a few feet from the Boise River. Guests can enjoy tasting flights, glasses and bottles of our Washington and Idaho wine while overlooking the scenic river.

A wanderlust-filled chapter unfolded during my time as an exchange student and English teacher in various regions of France, where the simple joys of life, entwined with the sacred rituals of breaking bread and sipping wine, became my muse. Inspired, I pursued studies in French Literature, seeking to weave the beauty I encountered into my daily existence. Yet, after years immersed in academia, the realization dawned that my true calling lay elsewhere.

As a graduate student at U.C. Davis, my path took an unexpected turn. Teaching French classes to pay the bills, I was introduced to students from the Viticulture and Enology program learning the language in preparation for internships in France. A realization struck – a more fitting opportunity to reignite the passion from my years in France emerged. Albeit, requiring a return to square one as I had no scientific background, I finally emerged with an M.S. in Enology.

I assumed my wine career would develop in California after having opportunities in regions like Sonoma, Carneros, and Napa Valley, working with renowned names such as Clos du Bois, Saintsbury, and Stags' Leap Winery. Family life led to a hiatus, but the desire to reconnect with my Idaho roots lingered. For years, I hauled Idaho fruit to the Napa Valley, again never expecting to leave California. However, a move back to Boise in 2012 marked a pivotal moment, anchoring my commitment to pursue my passion seriously.

The Coiled brand germinated during my tenancy at Cinder and then Telaya, before finding a space of my own at 34th and Chinden in Garden City. A recent remodel transformed the front of the building into our vibrant tasting room, fostering collaboration with local artists, musicians, chefs, and farmers. This evolution reflects our commitment to crafting more than wine – a holistic experience where every sip tells a tale of resilience, passion, and a homecoming to Idaho's winemaking heritage. Our vision is to provide the community with a unique farm-to-table experience through both our farm and our winery offerings. Our land overlooks the breathtaking Snake River Valley and has been a historical piece of farmland that the community knows well. We loved that historical aspect so much so that we took the old milking parlor on the farm and transformed it into a beautiful tasting room for our patrons (Kudos to Ma + Pa). From dirt floors and Holsteins, to a polished western interior- Dunning Estates came into existence.

There are over 3,100 whitewater river miles in the state of Idaho. We met and our story started on the Middle Fork of the Salmon and we decided to start making sparkling wine in Idaho while on a trip in Hells Canyon. Our winemaking and family journey has had many meanderings through just a fraction of those thousands of miles.

We started making wine in 2014. Hailey's parents helped plant (and now manage) our estate vineyard in 2017. We believe every great wine region in the world should make bubbles and when we started making wine in 2014, no one in Idaho had committed to making world class sparkling wine on a regular basis. So we did! With a few vintages under our belts and one year in the Idaho industry, we snagged one ton of Chardonnay and made some killer wine. Then we let it sit, and sit, and sit until it was tasting a little like an old world style traditional method sparkling wine. We have kept up with that style, allowing our wines to age on average for 3 years, sometimes longer, and sometimes not so long.

The sparkling wine we make is a tribute and thanks to the whitewater that has shaped our story. We strive to make a wine as alive as the rivers that inspire it.
