Growing Conditions

100% Skyline Vineyard

The distinct four-season climate of the Snake River Valley offers ideal growing conditions. The characteristic cold winters are conducive, allowing vines to go dormant, to rest and conserve important carbohydrates for the coming season, while also discouraging disease and bugs. The region’s dramatic diurnal temperature variation during the summer serves to balance grape acids and sugars favorably.

Idaho’s 2022 grape growing season got off to a late start due to a cool wet spring, but ultimately these factors led to larger fruit. The long, warm summer months — the second hottest on record for some Idaho regions — helped fruit continue to ripen. The mild fall season allowed the grapes to hang on the vine much longer, resulting in yields over 10% higher than average. Expect expressive aromas and elevated levels of acid for white varietals for the 2022 vintage.
